"Zzyzx" - acrylic and wood burning on board, 24 x 49. A road in CA was given the name "Zzyzx" in 1944, by a man who claimed it was the last word in the English language. Driving by the turn-off for the road, seeing the raw beauty and the desolation that surrounds it, I found myself wondering if Zzyzx were the last place on earth, what would it look like? Would it be guarded by a creature that bridged the gap between the worlds above and below? Would the scattered remains of those who came before cover the earth? Would day, night, land and sea collide? It was a fun concept to explore. I am currently building the cradle for the wood board, which features etched and burned scrolled detailing with liquid gold leaf accents.

Thank you! I appreciate that. And I like that you said 'variety'. I find that no matter my intent to do otherwise, I always seem to use a lot of red and teal, and at a recent show a fellow artist teasingly asked me how many tubes of it I went through

Haha, well I certainly wouldn't want to correct someone who undoubtedly knows better than I, but I find each piece quite unique. Each one feels like it's yours, but none of them feel the same. So maybe the red and teal help to collect them all under your banner, but in my opinion it doesn't take away from their excellent variation. They're stunningly beautiful.
